About The Paddle Marathon
The FIFTH ANNUAL 2 Dam Days Paddle Marathon on the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri will be held October 4 and 5, 2014. Don't miss this challenging event. Comments from previous 2DamDays' racers include, "..toughest race I was ever in...I'll be back". What will it be like this year? Will it be a calm, windless weekend with no big cruisers around to make horrendous wakes? I doubt it. So if you're among the faint of heart, maybe you'd best stay at home. But if your heart jumps at the thought of a real challenge, plan to join in for the race between the dams. Come for the challenge, but don't forget the BIG BUCKS! The 2DD Extreme (Unlimited and Limited) has a guaranteed purse of over $14000 in prize money if all divisions are filled and if the marathon record is broken. The best overall time (and this includes all race categories within "The Extreme Races") will win $500 plus! Beat the course record currently held by Mike Herbert and take home an additional $1500. If that record is not broken, $500 will be added each year to the record breaking purse. It should be noted that, since the starting point in 2014 has been changed, the record time will be adjusted acccordingly to match the nominal average speed for the 2 day event.
BUT YOU HAVE OTHER CHOICES
But if paddling dam to dam in two days doesn't turn you on, not to worry. LOWA's 2DamDays Paddle Marathon includes a race to meet every taste. Available races include a 3.5 mile sprint (Anything Goes) and a 15.5 mile short race (The Sweet16).
In addition, if you want to join the big boys and girls but can do so on only one day, you can do so in 2014. This year the Extreme UL and Extreme L will have pay-outs for Day 1 and Day 2 as well as best overall for both days. If you can race only one of the days, you will still be eligible for a share of the purse for that day.
See the above table to learn more about these races and click on the specific race in that table to learn all the details.
Female BonusThere will be only two divisions in the extreme UL and Extreme L races: Solo and Tandem. However, there will be a special bonus available for the top finishing female in the solo division and for the top finishing females in the tandem division. See the Extreme Races page for more details.
Are You A Real Landlubber and Plan to Stay That Way?
If the only water you want to be in is your bathtub, then don't worry, come join in on the fun anyway. Be part of the action by being a LOWA 2DD volunteer to work at the check-points or at the LOWA booth. Encourage the paddlers by cheering them on or cheering them home. Enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Clean Water Festival at Captain Ron's and join in the fun on Sunday at the closing ceremony.
Be A Boat Volunteer
The safety of the paddlers is our main objective and Lake Area volunteers rose to the occasion in 2012 by volunteering themselves and their boats to assure the paddlers remained safe. We plan on providing even greater protection in 2013 and therefore need the Lake Area boaters to volunteer in even greater numbers. In the main menu above, rest your mouse on the "More Links" item to bring up the "Volunteer" link.
Support the Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance
The purpose of the 2DamDays Paddle Marathon is to provide support to LOWA, the citizen-based, non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining the water quality of the Lake of the Ozarks while helping the local economy by publicizing to the world the beauty and recreational aspects of the Lake.
See You September 28 and 29, 2013 at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri in Central USA!
